Visit Slovenian Department of Road Transport (DARS)
This summer I was invited to visit the head-office of the DARS in Ljubljana. I had a limited amount of Slovenian vignettes in my collection and was looking to extend it. I asked the DARS to help me extend my Slovenian collection and got a positive reaction on my request. We had some mailcontact and an appointment was made to visit the head-office and meet mr. Sandi Radovan the designer of the Slovenian vignettes.
My arrival was expected and very well organized. I was picked up at the reception bij mr. Radovan and escorted to his office. On our way to his office mr. Radovan told me that people of PR department, Teja Kžišnik and her colleque, are joining us in his office also. They heard about my collection and in particular my interest in the Slovenian vignettes and found that exceptional enough to write an article about it in the Avtoceste. The house-magazine of the DARS.
After a very warm welcome I got explanation about the vignettes’ design and production of it. An important part of the design and production is the protection of the vignet with the purpose to avoid that the vignet can be used again. After all those years of collecting and talking to designers I know the aspects of protection of the various vignettes quite well. I can say that the Slovenian vignet is the best protected vignet I know. In my opinion the vignet is protected in a way that it can not be used a second time. Removing the vignet from the windshield the color-coating removes and the word “INVALID” appears.
The Slovenian authorities put a lot of mobile and fixed control-points on the highway so it is rather conceivable that you will get a fine in case you have an invalid ticket or no ticket at all.
It is very special that I got a complete collection of vignettes from year one! Mostly because almost all the expired not sold vignettes are being destroyed at the end of period.
With this exceptional gift my collection of Slovenian vignettes is now complete and I think back to a very warm welcome and an informative meeting with the very nice people of the Slovenian Department of Road Transport.
